Teas and diet for detoxing and de-puffing after end-of-the-year celebrations
End of the year’s parties and celebrations are full of delicious food and drinks, but despite your best efforts to avoid overeating in those occasions, sometimes you can’t resist the temptation and end up indulging in those calories.
When you eat too much, you gain weight, but a proeminent belly can be the result not only from th extra-fatty Christmas and New Year’s food. But also from food that fermentates, provoking gases or liquid retention, that push the abdomen outside.
According to endocrinologist Sônia Nogueira, the problem with those parties is not only the excess of food, but also the mixing of various types of foods, which could cause fluid retention, accumulation of toxins and constipation, resulting in malaise, inflated stomach and general bloating.
Cleaning the organism from toxins activates, acelerates the metabolism and stimulates the burn of localized fat. The formula utilized by spas around the world is: lots of water, lots of fruit and few calories.
Journalist Eliane Contreras interviewed experts in nutrition and health for Boa Forma magazine, proposing a fast program including detoxing drinks and healthy food to get rid of the extra fat fast.
Usually, the menu starts more restrict in the first three days, then you can eat more substancial meals; you start eating more quality food, intaking less quantities of it.
Its purpose is practicing a healthy eating, but strting with a fast results menu that allows you to eliminate toxines, decrease the sensção de inchaço and lose inches, keeping you motivated. Nutritionist Marcia Dal Medico, from Jardin de Serra spa, told Boa Forma magazine that this program, of easy diggesting food that helps cleaning and desinchar the organism, works as an impulse to weight loss.
Nutritionist Célia Mara suggests an easy to follow cardápio of 1000 calories daily.

Nutritionist Vanderlí Marchiori, specialized in phytotherapy, collaborator of Associação Paulista de Nutrição, says that systematic consumption of those foods collaborates for body’s storage of toxins and free radicals, that result in localized fat, cellulitis and premature aging.
Besides, those unhealthy foods steal your energy and can result in accumulation of heavy metals, such as aluminum and lead, substances that attack the stomach, the vesicle and the liver, also increasing weight gain.
Avoid them completely during your herbs and diet detoxing, reintroducing them later, as industrialized products simplify busy daily life, in less frequency and quantity.

Morning breakfast
Until around 10h, when your kidneys are super active, you feed only from juices and fruits. Célia Mara says that those are foods that reinforce the process of eliminating toxins and contain fibers that don’t irritate the colon.
Lunch and dinner

- low-fat yogurt
- vegetables loaded with water, such as chayote and cucumber
- leaves, especially the dark green ones, such as cabbage, endives, cooked, especially for dinner, when digestion is slower.

Madeleine Gesta, author of a naturalist weight loss method, recommends eating heathy and nutritious snacks. She teaches two recipes that are good options for afternoon snack.
For providing energy
Satisfies the urge to snack and gives energy.
Hidromel
- 500ml of water
- 1 lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 1 liter of vegetable broth
- 1kg of leek
- 500g of carrots
- 500g of tomatoes
- Put the ingredients in a pressure cooker and cook for 20 minutes.
- Strain and consume only the vegetables.
For regulating and equilibrating the intestin
Sweet dairy
- 250g of Minas cheese
- 1 low-fat natural yogurt
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 125g of strawberries or 2 tablespoons of raisins
- Mix it up and consume it immediately.
Recommendation tips for meals
Make use of herbs and spices in place of salt, such as rosemary, parsley, mint, coriander, basil, cinnamon and ginger; salt makes your body retain fluids. Tamara Mazaracki, orthomolecular doctor and nutritionist says that those herbs have digestive function and reduce gas formation, besides adding flavor to food.
Fractionate and reduce meal size
Eat slowly, chewing well; when you eat quickly, you tend to swallow air, favoring the formation of gases, thus puffing the abdomen.
After the first three days
After the initial phase, you should resume your regular diet with little fat and sugar, and go on with stomach flattening strategies that help with weight loss.
Return to eating beans, lentils, peas, corn, raw leaves, pasta and cereals gradually and in moderate doses; they provide essential energy, fibers, vitamins and minerals.
Avoid combining pasta and meat in the same meal. Same goes for other types of food that ferment, like broccoli and cauliflower, or beans and cabbage.
Keep seasoning dishes with little salt; it contains sodium, which makes your body retain fluid.
For the same reason, control the consumption of sausages and canned food, such as sausage, hamburguer, concentrated broth in powder or cubes, and salty snacks.
Drink water
Lack of water also makes your belly grow and show; without it, the feces get dry and it’s difficult to eliminate them.
A reasonable quantity of water is at least 2 liters of liquid per day; at least 1 liter of pure water.
Other drinks
You can complement the liquid intake with green tea and or mint tea, that ease diggestion, or juices like watermelon shaken with its own seeds and water, that desincha and cleans the organism.
Three days of tea detox
According to Vanderlí Marchiori, three days is the necessary period of time for the herbs to let your body less resistant to weight loss. After that, you have two options: reduce sizes or fight cellulitis.
Half an hour before meals, you must take a cup of herbal tea, that helps completing the cleansing, getting your body ready to loose weight and expulsar the celulitis.
When buying herbs and roots, choose producers that care to dry, package and store them the proper way.
Detoxing teas
Three to four glasses a day should be combined with the three-day diet. If you prefer, drink a glass half an hour before your main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner). At these times, tea helps with satiety, in addition to its therapeutic effect.
Prepare it with one, two, or three herbs, at maximum.
- Sarsaparilha (Smilax sp) ‒ diuretic and depurative, helps eliminate the heavy metals.
- Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) ‒ diuretic action, and improves bowel function.
- Lemongrass (Cynbopogon citratus) ‒ eases digestion and reduces liquid retention.
- Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) ‒ activates blood circulation and fights free radicals.
Slimming teas
After detoxing phase, you’re free to reduce sizes or lose up to 1.5 kilos with slimming teas. During ten days, drink three to four glasses per day. Go ahead in case you need to follow two treatments; you need to first finish one to start the other.
During this phase of your chosen diet, you must suppress energy thieves such as sugar, salt, fried foods and processed foods.
Choose herbs that have the power of acelerating the metabolism, facilitating fat burn.
Combine until three herbs together.
- Carqueja (Bacchris trimera Less) ‒ diuretic effect and reduces blood sugar levels.
- Green tea (Camelia sinensis) ‒ stimulates digestion and eases fat burning.
- Ginger (Zingiber officinale) ‒ promotes satiety and accelerates the metabolism.
- Guaçatonga (Caesaria sylvestris) ‒ activates fat digestion and possesses diuretic action.
- Earth orange (Citrus aurantium) ‒ metabolism rhythm and stimulates digestion.
- Seven-bleed (Cuphea balsamona) ‒ diuretic and slightly laxative.
Anti-cellulitis teas
You can use anti-cellulitis teas before or after the group of the weight loss products, but not before detoxification.
Recommendations are also the same: avoid the energy thieves and drink three to four glasses daily for ten days.
Choose plants that stimulate blood circulation and avoid liquid retention. Mix one, two, or three herbs.
- Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) ‒ diuretic and detoxing.
- Hammamelis (Hamamelis virginiana) ‒ possesses anti-inflammatory action and reduces liquid retention and fat responsible for cellulitis.
- Horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanus) ‒ improves vessel permeability and decreases swelling.
Energizing teas
According to Ayurveda, ancient Indian medicine, ginger-based teas, which also help you lose weight, and other spices detoxify and energize.
Ayurvedic practitioner Marcia Silva DeLuca teaches the recipe of an energizing spices tea:
- Take the thermos.
- Put three to four ginger slices.
- Add two cinnamon sticks.
- Add two to three cloves.
- Add cardamom seeds.
- Add 1 liter of boiling water and cover.
- Let it rest for ten minutes.
The infusion is ready and must be taken many times a day, in small sips for the energetic action of ginger to be constant.
Preparing tea the right way
To guarantee the therapeutic effects of tea, you must...
- Boil the water, add the herb or spice and let it come to a boil.
- Turn off the heat and smother for 15 minutes.
- Strain and drink hot, warm or iced, without sugar or sweetener.
Measures
Use 1 (table)spoon of herbs for 1 liter of water.
If the herb is fresh, multiply its measure for three.
Store the tea in a glass recipient.
Lasts until two days in the freezer.
Other drinks for after the first initial three days
Take it easy on soft drinks and beer. Prefer detoxing juices, like these two recipes suggested by doctor Tamara Mazaracki.
Blend in a blender:
- 1 pear with 1 slice of melon
- 1 bunch of parsley
- 1 (tea)spoon of ginger in powder or grated
- ½ (half) glass of iced water
Blend in a blender:
- 1 glass of coconut water
- ½ (half) cucumber
- ½ (half) carrot
- ½ (half) apple
When you need to repeat the three days of detoxing, be careful to vary the herbs. Same for the groups of slimming and anti-cellulite teas. José Alvarenga Macedo, professor of University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and specialized surgeon in aesthetic medicine and phytotherapy, says that, although there are no contraindications, you must avoid using the same plant for long.

- + 1 thin slice of fresh cheese
- 1 orange
- salad with vegetables
- + raw vegetables seasoned only with lemon and salt
- + 1 small grilled steak
- ½ (half) papaya
- 1 low-fat yogurt
- + 1 apple
- 1 orange
- Water, teas and coffee (with sweetener).
